Drifted and Gifted artist is Polly Goldsmith, a Portland based artist whose pieces hand crafted items using Dorset driftwood. Polly’s preference is to work freestyle, with her particular passion being in the making of quirky driftwood lamps and clocks, although she has made all types of creations, from candle scones to chairs and much more. Polly currently lives and works from a traditional small old stone cottage on the Isle of Portland, in the centre of Dorset's Jurassic coastline, finally achieving her life long dream of living & working by the sea.
Polly’s passion for driftwood art started initially by collecting small amounts of driftwood to make mobiles that then progressed to larger and more challenging pieces that were selling locally, and as word spread it grew into a passion. In Polly’s own words “I love and support the whole idea of recycling and up-cycling, so naturally as I have developed as an artist, I've introduced a wider spectrum of objects into my work, such as rusty metal, copper piping, beach rope, vintage tins, jars etc. Striving to create wilder and more intricate pieces, whilst still preserving the natural beauty of raw driftwood.”
